Thirty days, 30 hours – during the 30 days between October 1 and October 30
Horses & Ponies >3 years of age: Log 30 hours of time spent with your horse/pony/donkey/mule (or the horse you borrow or lease or, however you are involved with that horse, one person, one horse paired).
Horses & Ponies 3 years or younger: 30 day – 15 hours (to allow those with young stock to join the fun without overloading their babies brains or patience!)
What counts as ‘hours’? One horse/pony/other equine with one person. If you own more than one horse/pony, you can register more than once (i.e. you register yourself & horse A, and also register yourself & horse B), but hours logged must be one on one, not you working with 2 horses at the same time, unless it is a driving team being trained / worked together.
- Time spent doing groundwork / in hand / liberty
- Time spent riding
- Time spent driving
- Time spent training your horse
- Time spent grooming your horse
What doesn’t count?
- Barn chores
- Farrier or vet work
- Feeding
- Fixing fence
- Putting up hay
- You get the picture!
The main point being, this challenge is intended to encourage us to spend time developing our horse / pony in their interactions with people at home or in public.
